Compensation, Benefit and Compliance Specialist


The Compensation, Benefit and Compliance Specialist is responsible for the Company payroll processing and the day to day administration of all Human Resource databases, including but not limited to the staff Human Resource document file (ApplicationXtender), Relias Learning and DATIS E3.  This position will also be responsible for assisting the Compensation, Benefit and Compliance Coordinator and the Compensation, Benefits and Compliance Director in administrative human resources related functions that may include working with site management to coordinate scheduling meetings and trainings to ensure that Crossroads follows all regulatory offices and funding sources.  The Compensation and Benefit Specialist will report directly to the Compensation, Benefits and Compliance Director of Crossroads of Western Iowa. 

Essential Duties

This position includes, but is not limited to, the following essential functions:

  • Prepares and processes payroll for Crossroads of Western Iowa employees, with support of Compensation, Benefit and Compliance Coordinator, as needed.
  • Ensures all employee paper work is complete and accurate (I9s, W4s, direct deposit).
  • Maintains training and staff files under the direction of the Compensation, Benefits and Compliance Director.
  • Maintains employee-related data bases.  Prepares and analyzes reports that are necessary to carry out the functions of the department and company.  Prepares periodic reports for management, as necessary or requested. 
  • Serves as the Central resource for entering and maintaining necessary paperwork as pertains to Workers Compensation, Disability, FMLA, Unemployment, etc. 
  • Fully utilizes Human Resources software (i.e.:  Relias Learning, DATIS E3) to the company's advantage.
  • Receives and processes all appropriate and required background checks and confirms drug tests are conducted on all employees prior to hire, and periodic follow-up on all employees to ensure compliance with regulating bodies.
  • Administers and enrolls employee benefit programs.
  • Assists with developing and scheduling benefits orientations and other benefits training.
  • Complies with all existing governmental and labor legal and government reporting requirements including any related to the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Employment Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), The Affordable Care Act (ACA),the Department of Labor, worker compensation, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and so forth.  Maintains minimal company exposure to lawsuits. 
  • Regular and consistent attendance per an established schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.

  • Excellent computer skills in a MS Windows environment.  Must include Excel and demonstrated skills in database management and record keeping.

While performing the responsibilities of the Compensation, Benefit and Compliance Specialist job, the employee is required to talk and hear.  The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

The employee must be able to travel between locations, and occasionally attend seminars which may require an overnight stay.

Working Conditions

Working conditions are normal for an office environment.  The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.  Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

 The Compensation, Benefit and Compliance Specialist will have the following experience and attributes:

  • High School diploma or GED required, advanced training in Human Resources preferred. 
  • Previous payroll processing experience preferred.
  • Must have a driving record that is acceptable to Crossroads' auto insurance company.
