Financial Specialist, Representative Payee

The Financial/Representative Payee Specialist is responsible for the accounting of financial transactions of all individuals enrolled in the Representative Payee program within the Social Security Administration (SSA).  Under minimal supervision, the individual will help to ensure that all financial transactions for an individual enrolled in the Representative Payee program, will be recorded according to the Handling of Funds for Persons Receiving Services policy of CWI.  This position will report directly to the Director of Accounting. 

Essential Duties

This position includes, but is not limited to, the following essential functions:

  • Manage representative payee services for individuals utilizing Rep. Payee Software
  • Monthly accounting and/or reconciliation of finances of all individuals in the Rep. Payee Program
  • Assist with individual budget development when requested
  • Coordinating with direct service staff to ensure client financial needs are met
  • Interact with the Social Security Administration
  • Ensure accurate client accounts following generally accepted accounting principles
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic and paper files for each client
  • Ensure agency compliance with representative payee laws and guidelines
  • Prepare reports required by Social Security and the organization
  • Continual systems review and improvement
  • Other accounting tasks
  • Other duties as assigned

While performing the responsibilities of the Financial/Representative Payee Specialist job, the employee is required to talk and hear.  The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard.  The employee is often required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  Vision abilities required by this job include close and distant vision.

Working Conditions

Working conditions are normal for an office environment.  The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.  Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work or travel between locations, and occasionally attend seminars which may require an overnight stay.

 The Financial/Representative Payee Specialist will have the following experience and attributes:

  • Associate Degree in Accounting or Related Field or Comparable Work Experience
